CHRYSANTHEMUM NOTES
See tliat the chrysanthemum plants are kept growing straight. Tie the lower stems to a stake, and see that every lateral shoot that you are handling has some support. Don't allow too many small sideshoots to stay on their holding. Pinch the things off as soon as you can handle them. If you have six or eight good shoots running up, it will hinder those shoots if the side growths are given a chance to rob them of their livelihood.
Good green foliage and good straight stems are the foundation facts which count for something to-day among the chrysanthemums.
Just keep the plants going well. That is all you can do during January. By next month we hope to be able to tell you how to do some of
the work of producing the large show flowers. Where ordinary garden stock are being grown, nothing more than feeding and watering need be done this month.
If the plants have branched on their own account let them go on. They still have a lot of growing to do. Any brown or yellow leaves that are showing should be pulled off for burning. Rusty foliage is a drag on the chrysanthemums. A spraying with lime sulphur, or a liberal dusting with lime will help to clean up rust troubles.
