“NOT QUITE A LADY”
FAMOUS PLAY NOW FILM The famous play, “The Cassilis Engagement,” by St. John Hantin, has been made into a film under the title of “Not Quite a Lady,” and this will be shown at the Majestic Theatre shortly. The story tells of a wealthy society youth who falls in love with a cabaret dancer and becomes engaged to her. Her mother, a coarse
vulgar type,’ is keen on getting something in writing, but nevertheless accepts an invitation to go to his parents’ country home. When she does arrive she nearly creates a panic with her manners and actions, and finally the girl realises the
hopelessness o f marrying: out of her station, and before leaving: gives a song and jazz dance before them all, in order to properly shock them. Mabel Poulton, an exceptionally capable English actress, plays the iole of Ethel, the dancer, and Barbara Cott is the mother.
