END DRAWS NEAR

N.Z. BOWLS TOURNEY BREMNER STILL IN RINKS AUCKLANDERS IN SINGLES FINAL (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, Thursday. • The weather and greens were perfect, and the games of a most interesting ! nature, when the rinks doubles and ! singles in the New Zealand bowling j champions were continued on the Wellington green. Bell (Hamilton), playing Doherty i (Kelburn), lost a four on the first end, and retaliated with a five on the second, and a three on the third, making the score 6—5 to the Hamilton rink on the fifth head. The game was 15all on the eleventh. Kelburn got away again, and led 20—16 on the fourteenth, and, keeping its head in front, it ran out a winner, 24—22, Bell thus losing a “life.” Both skip and third were playing well, Bell junior drawing some great shots, but the Kelburn men were just too good on the day. Hosking (Carlton), playing Ardell (Hataitai), got a five on the fifth, when he was down that number on the slate. Hosking was always having to fight hard. Ardell’s men, playing well, kept in the lead, and the game midway was 15 —11 on the fourteenth, against the Carlton rink. Ardell got a four on the nineteenth, settling the game, and he won five up. The game was 5-all on the fifth. 7-all on the seventh, and 11-all on the eleventh —rather a coincidence. FINDLAY’S GOOD WINS Findlay (Mount Eden) was drawn to play Woolf (Christchurch), and play in the early stages was a succession of singles to both teams, Woolf’s man leading by a point or two until the fifteenth, when Findlay gave him two more on the fourth. Mount Eden drew a lovely six, at which Woolf and his third failed, and Findlay led, 14—10. The nineteenth was burned by Christchurch, the twentieth saw Mount Eden three up, 16—13, and on the final end Woolf trailed with a daisy, and laid the four required, but the Mount Eden skip drew a lovely one for his second shot. Woolf failed to displace, and Findlay won. 16—14. His team—Delamore, Turner, and Trayes—gave him great stipport. BAIN BEATS CLARKE 5 Clarke and Needham, the West End pair, played their doubles in the morn - - ing with Bain and Monks (Levin). Play was of a very even nature, 7—4 ‘ to West End on the seventh, Clarke ■ picking up kitty very cleanly score when the heads were against him. Fhe ‘ West End pair continued to lead 15 j : on the 14th, and on the 18th, they were . is 13, Bain having pulled up a few. • On the last end, he equalised, 16 all. ‘ in the play off, Bain won. He deserved ~ his victory, as Clarke led him prac- | tically throughout the journey. . Higgott and Jenkin and Rennie and Lewis (Christchurch) met in the pairs, and the Hamilton men got a four on the seventh, and were B—68 —6 on the 11th. Then Higgott got a brace, and a • quartet on the next two heads, and • was 15 —6 on the 14th. A single and . a pair, and he was 12 up on the 16th I and was 10 up on the 15tli. Then . Rennie got a three and a two and, needing five to tie, he got a lovely trail and landed them. It was level pegging, 19 all on the 21st. In the • play off, the christchuch men got a • pair, and won in a great fighting finish, :, 21 19. PARSONS BEATS NORTH North, hitherto unbeaten in the singles, met his Waterloo when Par- . sons played the Te Awamutu rep. this • afternoon, Parsons always holding him, and lie never got his head in front, the - Ponsonby man making victory secure by a four on the 20th. When the • game ended, the score was 21—16. » Parsons is going well and is a finished Pl Launay (Epsom) met Pollock (Newtown), and De Launay was chasing the Newtown man until lie got a four, and squared things seven all on > the seventh. This was just the fillip ' that the Epsom representative required, - as from that stage, he dominated the . game, and Pollock was never in the hunt, losing 12 —19 on the 20th, Maxwell Walker’s right-hand man being right on the job. A R. Coltman (Carlton) put it all ■ over Allan Smart (New Plymouth) in the early stages, and the score was ; i4 —5 on the 11th. Smalt picked up a . few points, but was three down on the 18th, and then the Carlton man ran ’ out on the 20th, 22—17. Hosking’s : lead in the rinks played well, and deserved his win. Bremner lost a “life” to-day to Do- ; herty (Kelburn) after a stern fight, in which the winners landed a six on . the ninth, Doherty taking out two • lying shots. West End was well up in the early stages, but Kelburn squared on the 11th, 14 all, and it was 17 all on the 17th. The 19th was a great ■ head, and aroused the enthusiasm of ’ the spectators, each man drawing to ’ inches. Doherty lay two and Bremner - took both out. The winning skip drew ■ a toucher to win the match. AUCKLANDERS IN FINAL ! Coltman (23) beat Parsons (11) very decisively in the semi-final singles, the • Ponsonby man never having a look in, ’ his opponent playing like clockwork, L while De Launay had a great set-to with North, who lost a couple of fours to the Epsom player. The 20th read. North 20, De Launay 18, and the latter ran kitty into the ditch and got the three required. Coltman meets De Launay in the final of the singles at 10 a.m. on Friday. 1 Findlay defeated Wardrop fairly com- . fortably, although Wardrop landed a > five on the last head when a seven was . required to tie the game. It was 13 all on the 14th, and on the 17th the • Mount Eden rink got a five and never looked back. Findlay was then de- . feated by McWhannell after a game , in which the Hataitai men led practically throughout. Bell, who had drawn a bye in the fifth round, and who had gone down to Doherty in the fourth, met his • Waterloo ” at the hands of Bremner, 5 who played a great fighting game. Bell ‘ led in the early stages, but Bremner ’ wore his opponent down. , Two past winners of the champion ; pairs met to-day, when Edwards (Te- • muka) defeated Hueston (Gisborne by a few points. Edwards, with Mc- ; Callum, won in 1923, and Hueston was the winner in 1919. A MARATHON CONTEST I In the Lowry-McWhannell rink gam#, in which Lowry was the winner, it took two hours to play the first nine heads. After the fourth had been completed, seven consecutive heads were burned, the Hataitai skip killing four, and his opponent three. And competitors ask why a time limit is placed on these games! i The semi-finals of the rinks will be continued this morning. Doherty, two lives, has the bye. Bremner plays i McWhannell, and the winner has to

beat Doherty twice. Findlay ana Turner (Mount Eden) play Routley (Kelburn) in the pairs at 9.30 on Friday morning.
