One Point Ahead

HARBOUR BOARD’S LEAD

Eventful Suburban Cricket

MUCH will hinge on to-morrow afternoon’s play in the City and Suburban Cricket Association’s senior A competition. On the Domain, Harbour Board, which is leading Ponby one point only, is faced with what is likely to be a harder match than that concerning the Ponies.

No one is expecting Ponsonby to lose to Glen Eden in the clash on No. 3 wicket, and Ponies have an excellent chance of winning decisively if the Edeners play us drably as they did against Victoria. Ponsonby will strive for a three-point win in the hope of drawing level with Harbour Board, at least, if the Board manages to secure only a two-point win. Ponsonby’s bowlers will have to j show better form r » than they did when they failed against Green Lane, as Glen Eden has several Datsmen who may prove difficult. Mackie was Ponies’ trickiest bowler against Green Lane, and Innes the most efficient hatter. . And it is Green Lane, under the generalship of coach Cox. which Harbour Board is being called upon to master. Whether Cox, who was the Line’s most dangerous trundler against Ponsonby, will be able to find holes easily in the formidable Harbour Board batting remains to be seen. Everything will depend on the wicket. If Harbour Board goes in first on a batsmen’s wicket, then Green Lane will have a somewhat hopeless task in keeping pace with the board. The game is on No. 2 wicket. With more enthusiasm than they showed in their match with Harbour Board, the Ellerslie players have the ability to make the game with Victoria on No. 1 wicket an interesting affair. The Victorians have a larger element of consistency than Ellerslie and several youthful batters have done well in recent matches. If Ellerslie is beaten there will be little surprise.
