In the Market Place
FEW STRAWBERRIES LOCAL FRUITS PLENTIFUL Strawberries were scarce in the City Markets to-day and supplies are nearly finished. Black currants and loganberries came forward in meagre offerings, and prices have risen. The local fruit crop is now in Cull season, stone fruits being especially plentiful. Tomatoes are coming to auction daily in enormous quantities. Fairly large supplies of apricots are arriving daily from southern districts. Potatoes are still flooding the vegetable market and prices are low. No outlet for supplies is visible at present. Cucumbers, beans. lettuces and onions are also plentiful. There is a fair demand. To-day’s poLiltry auction saw unusually heavy supplies of most lines. Values showed a marked decrease. Choice heavy hens are now the medium of good competition, but lighter breeds are slow of sale. Ducks are in over-supply. Prices in the small stock market for all lines of pigs are not changedf. Quotations: * FRUIT Strawberries—Good quality, lOd to Is 6d; inferior, 5d to 7d.
