WORTH £85,329
VALUER’S ESTIMATE OF NEWMARKET TRAFFIC PROSECUTIONS The Borough of Newmarket is now worth £85,329, an increase of £4,399 over last yeai that is, for rating purposes. This is the total arrived at by the borough valuer, and is, of course, subject to alerations by the Assessment Court. The increase of £4,399 is 5.4 per cent, of the total, and compares favourably with the increases recorded in previous years. The greatest increase since 1924 is 9.4 per cent., and tlie smallest is 4.4 per cent. According to the report of the borough traffic inspector, received at last evening’s meeting of the council, steps are to be taken to prosecute motorists who have no mirrors on their cars, or who have rear reflectors and tail lamps in the wrong place. Many warnings have been given, says the report, and prosecution is contemplated in future cases. The New Zealand Insurance Company wrote to the council saying that the chimney of a house in Saraura Street required urgent repairs. The company asked the council to attend to the matter, and it was accordingly referred to the Works Committee. The question of the relevancy of certain minutes of a special meeting, held on December 7, was raised at the beginning of last evening’s meeting. There was fconsiderable discussion among the councillors, and a vote was taken as to whether the minutes should be confirmed or not. It was decided that they should be, and the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, signed them “under protest.”
