AKARANA’S CUP DAY NEW SCHOONER AS FLAGSHIP The Akarana Yacht Club will hold its annual Cup Day on Saturday, when harbour races for yachts launches, and outboard motor boats will be conducted from off the clubhouse, Campbell’s Point. Added interest will be lent by the appearance of the new schooneryacht Valkyrie as flagship, kindly placed at the disposal of the club by Captain E. Gilling. The yacht will be moored south of the compass dolphin, the starting and finishing line being betwen Valkyrie and the dolphin. The first race, that for keal yachts, will begin at 2.30. The five-flag system will be employed in the dispatch of all races. Concurrently with the . racing, an “At Home” will take place in the clubhouse, and in the evening a dance will be held. A picnic has been arranged for the Sunday, the destination to be fixed on the day. The racing officials will be: Starter, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; judge, Mr. H. Hill; timekeeper, Mr. G. Miller. Two races for outboard motor-boats for the Maud Shield (class B), and one open event, will also be held, the first race starting at 3.30. Post entries will he received, and the course will be decided upon on Saturday. SANDERS CUP TRIALS THIRD TEST THIS EVENING This evening the third trial race for the selection of Auckland’s challenger for the Sanders Cup will be held. The race, which will be contested by Avalon, Val, and Rona, will stlrt about five o’clock off the King’s Wharf. If necessary, a fourth test will be held on Saturday. Avalon and Val have each had one win and two thirds to their credit, and Rona two seconds.
