There was a total of over £I.OOO represented in that period, said the chief detective. In addition, double cards and lists of acceptances were found. Bookmakers Preferred At the recent annual social of the Adelaide Trainers and Owner-Train-ers’ Association the opinion was expressed that racing in South Australia would benefit if bookmakers were licensed. Sam Rasheed, president of the association, said that all reasonable racing men in South Australia favoured the adoption of such a step. and that recently the chairman of the Metropolitan Racing Clubs had voted for it. Mr. Rasheed added that under present conditions most people who went to racecourses in South Australia broke the law. and he hoped the present Government would grant the request of the racing community and register bookmakers. Bookmakers were entitled to be licensed, and everyone present at the social should assist to that end.
