“UNWELCOME INVASION”
N.Z. BUTTER IN CANADA PAPER ASSAILS TREATY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. VANCOUVER, Tues. The Charlotte town (Prince Edward Island) “Guardian.” attacking the trade treaty says two shipments of New Zealand butter, totalling 5,500,000 pounds, were recently landed at Halifax. “This means that an amount of Canadian butter must look elsewhere for a market,” says the paper. “This is what the farmers and dairymen of the country are up against. Their competitors enjoy summer weather and excellent pasturage, while our own cattle must be kept in stalls eating their heads off. “How long does Ottawa propose to remain blind to the interests of a great Canadian industry. Thanks to the quality of their product the Island dairymen had a good year. Undoubtedly they would have done better if they had been spared this unwelcome invasion.”
