DESPERATE ASSAULT

SYDNEY MAN ARRESTED FEARFUL INJURIES GIVEN SYDNEY, Tuesday. The police to-day arrested Charles Brodie, aged 40, a journeyman baker, on a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm on James Dignam at the Trades Hall yesterday. Dignam positively identified Brodie as the man who kicked him and otherwise assaulted him. Accused was brought before the Court and remanded. Dignam, who is 64 years old. was seeking work from the Bakers’ Union at the Trades Hall in Sydney when a crowd of unemployed men commenced fighting. Dignam was knocked down and kicked most unmercifully on the head and face. His skull was fractured and his right eye was destroyed.
