PERSONAL. —Mr. C. C. Cleary has joined the Kaituna as second engineer after his holiday leave. Mr. W. C. Falconer, second engineer of the Wairuna, has been granted holiday leave, Mr. B. Isaac being promoted to his place. Mr. H. P. Addis has joined the Kiwitea as third engineer. THE HERMINIUS.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company reports that the steamer Herminius is now fixed to leave Antwerp to-day with a cargo of basic slag for Auckland. She is d,ue here on February 23. THAMES SERVICE.—The Northern Company advises that the Rangitoto, which is due here at 2 o’clock this afternoon, will leave Auckland at* 5 p.m. on her return trip to Thames in place of the Waipu, which is undergoing slight repairs. The Rangitoto is due back again at 3 a.m. to-morrow. CARGO FROM THE EAST.—En route from Calcutta and Eastern ports, the local office of the Union Company has been advised that the steamer Waiotapu left Newcastle at midnight on Monday for Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, Bluff, Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Lyttelton on Saturday and Iv.-re early in February. WAITEMATA AT VANCOUVER.— Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Waitemata, from Westport, via Suva, arrived at Vancouver at 9 p.m. last Friday. The vessel will later proceed to New Westminster, Union Bay and Ocean Falls, clearing the last-named port on January 24 for San Francisco and Los Angeles, to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. TREKIEVE IN PORT.—Under charter to the A. and A. Line, the Hain steamer Trekieve arrived in the stream at Auckland last evening from New York and berthed this morning at the Prince’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her cargo under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The Trekieve left New York on December 12, and experienced good weather for the run to New Zealand. Captain W. E. Kent is in command of the Trekieve and has the following officers with him: Chief, Mr. E. A. Jenkins: secopd, Mr. H. W. Law.-; third, Mr. J. C. Prouse; chief engineer, Mr. J. Irvine; second, Mr. W. Johnston: third, Mr. H. Evans; fourth, Mr. G. R. Mullans: wireless operator, Mr. S. Xettleton; chief steward. Mr. G. 11. Williams. The Trekieve is expected to leave Auckland to-morrow afternoon for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, to complete her discharge.
- 1 HORORATA LEAVE’S NEWPORT. — The New Zealand Shipping Company has been notified by cablegram that the Ho* rorata left Newport News last Thursday morning for Wellington, Auckland and Bluff, en route from London. The vessel Is due at Wellington on February 6. GREAT BARRIER TRlP.—Another daylight excursion to the Great Barrier will be made by the Northern Company\s steamer Rangitoto to-morrow. She is to leave Auckland at S a.m., and is expected back at 10 p.m. Light meals can be procured on board, while for those who take their lunch baskets hot water will be supplied. OLIVEBANK DOCKED. —Discharging and ballasting operations on the- Finnish four-masted barque Olivebank at King's Wharf were completed yesterday. This morning the vessel was docked to have her hull cleaned and painted, and about Saturday she is to be dispatched for Port Lincoln to load wheat for Europe. SURREY AT GISBORNE.—The Federal steamer Surrey arrived at Gisborne this morning from Napier, and leaves on Saturday for Auckland, where she is due next Monday to complete her loading under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The vessel is to be dispatched finally from this port on January 25 for New York, Halifax and London, via Panama. BENTON AT NEW PLYMOUTH. — With a cargo of phosphates for discharge at New Plymouth and Wanganui, the steamer Benton arrived at the former port yesterday from Nauru Island. From Wanganui the vessel will proceed to Westport fox' bunkers; Whence she goes to Sydney, where she will be handed over to her owners. SYDNEY STEAMERS.—The Marania sails fx'om Auckland at 3 p.m. next Friday for Sydney. The Maunganui, which ai'rived at Wellington at 9 a.m. yesterday, sails at 3 p.m. on her return trip to Sydney. The Ulimaroa reached Sydney at 6.30 a.m. yestex-day from Wellington and leaves at noon on Friday for Auckland. All the three vessels are due at their arrival ports* next Tuesday morning. A NEW WHALING FACTORY SHIP— The latest tanker which Messrs. Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, are to build has been ordered by the Viking Whaling Company, which is a new undertaking in which British and Norwegian capital is involved. The vessel, which will be of 15,000 tons, is to be fitted with blubber boilers, cutting-up machinery, and special apparaturs foi' lifting whales on to her decks. She will cost £275,000.' PASSENGERS ON ORSOVA.—The following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the Orient liner Orsova, which is due at Sydney from London tomorrow:—Major J. Alexander, the Misses L. E. and M. F. Cook, Dr. and Mrs. P. T. Herring, the Rev’. W. W. Lambert and Mrs. Lambert, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Robertson. Miss E. S. KILCREDANE ARRIVES.—An arrival in the stream at Auckland early this morning was the steamer Kileredane with a full cargo of phosphates from Casablanca, Morocco, fox' discharge at Auckland and Lyttelton. The vessel left South Shields on November 1 for Genoa, where she arrived on November 12. After bunkering she cleared the Italian port on November 19 and reached Casablanca four days latex'. The Kileredane took on board 7,700 tons of phosphates, 5,000 tons fox* Auckland «nd the balaxice for Lyttelton. Departure was taken from the phosphate port at noon on November 27, and Colon was reached on December 16, where she bunkered again. Transit through the Canal was granted, and the vessel continued her voyage the same evening. Throughout the whole voyage the vessel experienced good weather. Before being taken over by her present owners, the Limerick Steam Ship Company, the Kileredane belonged to the Old Russian Volunteer Fleet and was named the Mogifeff. She was practically an armed eruisei', being fitted with sevei'al guns. She was used foi' th a carriage of troops and was elaboi'ately fitted out. The Kileredane is a vessel of 6,189 tons gross. Captain F. Kirk is in command of the vessel and has tlxe following officers with him: Chief, Mr. E. W. Fenton; second, Mr. T. Hunter; chief engineer, Mr. R. Spence: second. Mr. Peter Legg; thii'd. Mr. J. S. Spencer; fourth, Mr. R. W. Blakey; wireless operator, Mr. C. B. Smith; chief steward, Mr. Jr. Ford. The Kileredane is expected to leave Auckland on Saturday afternoon for Lyttelton to complete her discharge, thence she proceeds to Westport for •bunkers.
