STEERING-GEAR BREAKS MISHAP TO ZINGARA TIMBER CARGO JETTISONED Press Association HOKITIKA, To-day. The motor-ship Zingara, when outward bound at 2 o’clock this morning. broke her chain steering gear when on the bar, and was washed ashore on the south side of the southern protective works. The cargo of sawn timber was jettisoned. It is hoped to refloat her at high tide. The Zingara. is a wooden schooner of 233 tons and was built in Auckland in 19015. She traded in the intercolonial trade until purchased by the Gisborne Harbour Board. She was recently taken over by a West Coast firm with McArthur Bros., Wellington, as managing agent*. Captain A. McArthur, who was recently in Auckland on holidays, is master of the vessel.
