of the maer; sew on the edging, making two 9-by--14-inch mats. pOR the linen and lace set mark two 7-by-7 - inch oblongs on the linen. Cut tw'O 50inch lengths o f insertion. Sew' each piece on an oblong with long edges parallel to those of the oblong and short edges, each 7 inches from the short edges of the oblong. Mark a 5-by-25-inch oblong on the linen. Cut a 19-inch piece of insertion, and lay it on the marked oblong as before, only placing the short edges 3 inches from those of the oblong. Mark two 7-by-12-inch oblongs on the linen; cut two 3-inch pieces of insertion. these on the oblongs marked, placing the short edges 2 inches from those of the oblongs. Mark two 5-inch squares on the linen. Cut two 4-inch squares of insertion; sew them on the linen squares. Sew down the edges of the lace, or have them hemstitched. Have hemstitching done along all edges of oblongs and squares. Cut this to make a picot edge. Along these edges sew edging. These sets are for a 60-inch table. Should yours be larger, make the long runners 12 inches longer than the table.
runners with mats to match. needed for a set of lace runners and mats: Five and three-eighths yards of 4-inch insertion, 91 yards of 1-inch insertion, and 151' yards of 11-inch edging. For a set of lace combined with linen, 2 yards of 36inch or g yard of 72-inch linen, 41 yards of 4-inch insertion, and 151 yards of 1-inch edging. QF the wider insertion cut a 69inch length of the narrower two lengths. Sew the narrower on each side of the wider. Sew the edging on all edges. Make a second runner like this; will measure 9 by 72 inches when done. Cut a 24-inch length of wider insertion.. and sew edging around it, making a 7-by-27-inch runner. Oi the wider insertion cut two 4-inch squares, and sew edging on each. Of the wider insertion cut two 11 -inch pieces of the narrower four. Sew the latter on each side
