LINDSAY, AUCKLANDER

SWIMMING CENTRE IS SATISFIED MOUNT EDEN’S “FINDS’’ Satisfaction naturally is felt by the Auckland Swimming Centre at the impending residence in Auckland of New Zealand’s champion long-distance swimmer, D. P. Lindsay, formerly of Christchurch and now of Wellington. Last evening the centre decided to secure particulars from the New Zealand Council concerning Lindsay’s eligibility to compete for the Auckland Centre at the New Zealand championships in Wellington early next month. No difficulty is expected, and Lindsay seems certain to be a member of the Auckland team. Mount Eden Club will probably be able to claim Lindsay as a member. The club has had several “finds” this season, notably D. Plank and C. Lound, from the East Coast. Transfers granted last evening by the centre were: D. Plank, from Gisborne to Mount Eden; J. H. Davey and the Misses Edna Champion and S. Grange, all from Waitemata Club to Mount Eden. The first important carnival of the new year will be held at the Tepid Baths this evening by the Parnell Club. Record entries have been received and the carnival will be a tryout for the Auckland championships to be held on January 21 and 22. Next Saturday Punsonby Club is holding club races and a harbour race for the Waiwai Shield. Mt. Eden Club is holding a carnival on January 28 at Bellevue Road baths, Grammar Club a carnival at the Tepid Baths on February 13, and "Waitemata Club a carnival at the Tepid Baths on February 21. The selectors of the Auckland team have been granted an extra day to send in the names of the members to the .controlling corr\mittee at the Dominion championships, owing to the lateness of the holding of the local title races.

STARTING BOARD TOO HIGH

SWIMMING RECORD SPOILED Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. At a meeting of the Wellington (Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, the 50yds centre championship was allotted to the Wellington Club. It was reported that with regard to the performance on Saturday of W. Cameron in swimming the 100yds championship in 56 4-5 s (3-5 s better than the existing New Zealand record for the distance), it was unfortunate that the centre could not recommend its recognition, as the starting-board was too high.
