WELLINGTON TROTS

Late Turf —

SCRATCHING OF NATIVE PRINCE AUCKLAND PACER NOW ACCEPTS Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. On Saturday Mrs. Sweetapple, owner ot Native Prince, wired the secretary of the Wellington "f rotting Club to withdraw Native Prince from his engagements owing to dissatisfaction with the handicaps. The officials of the Wellington Trotting Club have made the following explanation in regard to the scratching of Native Prince for his engagements at the Wellington meeting on {Saturday. Mrs. J. E. Sweetapple, owner of Native Prince, telegraphed from Auckland that Native Prince was unfairly handicapped and to withdraw the horse from all engagements. The Wellington club’s officials, discovering that Mrs. Sweetapple had the impression her horse was handicapped on fifteen yards, published incorrectly in an Auckland newspaper, telegraphed as follows: “Correct handicap of Native Prince is 12 yards, do you wish cancel scratching.” The club then received a telegram from Mrs. Sweetapple to accept for all engagements. The "Wellington Club rules that it did not receive Mrs. Sweetapple’s first telegram, and waited lor confirmation of the scratching. after she had learned the correct handicap. Under these circumstances it is ruled by the club that Native Prince is an acceptor for Saturday’s meeting at Mutt Park. TRAVIS AXWORTHY PENALISED Travis Axworthy has been penalised 24 vards in the Improvers’ Handicap for the Wellington trots, which places him on 72 yards.
