HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated January 12 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London: — Tallow.—No auction this week. Market quiet at last quotations. Hemp.—Manila: Prices higher on a continued demand, and “J” grade sold for January-March shipment at £4l. Stocks in Manila on December 31 were 140,000 bales, and in Great Britain 16,397 bales. Sisal: Market firm with a good trade demand. At the close there were buyers of No. 1 lor January-March shipment at £43, but no sellers. Good marks sold up to £43 10s during this week. Closing value of No. 2 was from £4O 10s to £4l ss. Mexican: Values for January-March shipment are:—Special brush. £39; good white, £36. It is reported that prices are likely to advance soon. New Zealand: Market firm but quiet. Available supplies limited and prospects are good. Closing values for January-March shipment are:—High points, £36 10s; fair, £34: common, £3l 10s. Tow—No. 2, £23 10s; No. 3, £l9. Apples—Market very quiet. Quotations are:—American Spitzenberg, 10s 6d to 12s a case; Jonathan, 10s 6d to 12s 6d; Stayman's Winesap, 11s to 12s; Newton Pippin, 10s 6d to 13s. Eggs.—Shipments by the Port Darwin and Mataroa arrived in good condition and are selling slowly at 16s Gd and 17s 6d up. Market quiet but steady. English, Dutch, Danish, French and Irish, 15s to 24s a long 100; Belgian, J»outh African, 16s to 18s; Australian, 14s to los; Chinese, Argentine, Polish and Russian, 11s Gd to 13s 6d. Wool—Bradford market firm but quiet, o 9 s, prepared, now being quoted at 2s od. Others are unchanged.
