NOT LOW ENOUGH
MATERNITY DEATH-RATE Press Association PALMERSTON N., Monday. That he was intensely interested in maternity hospital work and intended to make a careful study of the Palmerston North institution, was stated by the Minister of Health, Hon. A. J. Stall worthy, when in Palmerston North to-day. In some parts of New Zealand mothers were not getting the same consideration from hospital boards as in other parts said the Minister, and that state of things should be remedied. It was an extremely important matter. The mortality rate in New Zealand was not correctly appreciated, and it was said that the position was grossly exaggerated. -He hoped that was so, but in any case a comparison of figures from other countries was not worth much. However, New Zealand had a long way to go before it could be com - placent about its maternal death rate, and he wanted to see the position better than it was.
