The Takapuna Boating Club's boathouse, Bayswater, is now undergoing repainting. The cost will run into three figures. At Tauranga the second race for the French Cup for seven-footers was won by L. Young in 1.X.L., with Vestal second and Pal third. Six boats competed. The cup was won by 1.X.L., with eight points. Vestal scored five and Pal three. • * * On Sunday afternoon between 5 and 6 o’clock the harbour was again alive with the returning pleasure fleet coming up close hauled to a light sou’easter. Passengers on the ferries were heard in many exclamations of delight. The Akarana Yacht Club will hold its annual “Cup Bay” on Saturday afternoon. Point Chevalier Sailing Club also has its big day on Saturday, when the annual regatta takes place. Events will be sailed for all the smaller yachts. Launches will alscr be catered for. * c # * Model yacht enthusiasts are pleased that events for the little boats are to be included once again in the Anniversary Regatta programme. In the past the races created considerable interest among devotees of the models. Those interested are invited to write to “Felix,” c/o the Post Oifice, Remuera. The 1929 Cornwell Cup contest starts at Lyttelton on Saturday. The number of centres competing is eight, the same as that of last year. Auckland’s defenders, B. Rogers (skipper) and G. Carter (for’ard hand), together with the Manukau challengers, R. Grant (skipper) and G. Park (for’ard hand) are to leave for the South this evening. Mr. Norman Wilson is accompanying the party. May the Cup remain in Auckland! At the fourth attempt the Sanders Cup selection committee was successful in having the first trial race decided on Saturday afternoon. Val won a close race. Mr. A. Matthews was at the tiller. Avalon, sailed by Mr. A. Willetts, owner and skipper of the champion 18-footer Mistral, sailed well when it is remembered her skipper was not so familiar with the Jellicoe bloats as his rivals. Rona, with Mr. V. Lidgard in charge, was not disappointing. Another trial is being held this evening.
