NOT WANTED ON VOYAGE

STOWAWAYS ON AORANGI ECONOMISTS REMANDED Apparently anxious to economise, two youths stowed away on the Aorangi before she left Sydney and succeeded in remaining hidden until the ship was four hours out from port, and it was too late to send them back. This morning at flic Police Court, Ernest Alfred Hoxford, a cleaner and presser, aged 17. was charged with having stowed away on the Aorangi. A second youth, 16 years of age, also appeared in Court, but was not charged on account of his age. Sub-Inspector McCarthy was of the opinion that the boys should not be at large, as there was a probability that they had had occasion to leave Australia. “I do not know whether your Worship can deal with them in open court ox’ not,” continued the subinspector. “One is 17 and you may be able to deal with both, but they may have to go to the Children’s Court.” A remand was granted until Wednesday morning.
