PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNAMENT The Public Service pairs bowling tournament has been advanced a further stage with the playing of the semi-final game between McMurtrie and Priestley (Education Department), and Lane and Godfrey (Lands and Survey Department). It was a particularly keen game, Priestley leading for the greater part of the game, only to see Godfrey finish strongly and win by 20 to 16. The final of the Rotorua Bowling Club’s fours competition created great interest yesterday, the game being watched by a large number of visiting bowlers and club members. It was very closely contested and resulted in a win for Jones’s team. The first two heads went to Butt for a single each. The next two went to Jones for one and at the eighth head the scores were 11 to 4 in Jones’s favour. Butt’s team then got going and at the 14th the score was: Butt, 17; Jones, 11. Then a change took place and Jones’s team scored on every other head except one. The game ended:—Jones, 26; Butt, IS. Jones’s team went through its section play without a loss.
