TRANSPORT BOARD DISCUSSIONS MR. J. A. C. ALLUM’S STATEMENT "Apparently the position has been misunderstood.” With these words Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, prefaced a statement to THE SUN this morning in reply to an article published on Saturday. rpHE article reviewed the position as -*■ it appears to-day, and announced that the outside local body representatives were definitely opposed to the holding of discussions in committee, declaring that they reserved the right to make statements to the Press. “I st;.V<l at the last meeting of the board that the object of referring matters to a committee of the board is to give members the fullest opportunity of discussing the important matters to come before them,” said Mr. Allum. “It is expected that the members, particularly those representing outside local bodies, will have various suggestions and proposals to submit. It has not been suggested that the Press shall be excluded from committee meetings. On the contrary, I am of opinion that when important policy matters are under discussion, the board wishes the Press to be in attendance.”
