Swimmer Trains for Cook Strait Venture
TIRI TO MILFORD AUSTRALIAN SURFERS SCARED Ronald Webster, of Takapuna, is in active training for a swim from Tiri Tiri Island to Milford Beach. He proppses to make the attempt next month. If Webster succeeds in the effort, it will be his intention to try to swim Cook Strait. He failed last February, owing to cold water and cross currents. An Ashburton girl, Lily Copplestone, is to attempt to swim the Strait
on January 19, and a London typiste, Mercedes Gleitze. has announced her intention oi making an attempt. Webster's big swim will probably be as soon as possible after the efforc from Tiri. Recently, he astonished surfers in Sydney by swimming well out beyond the breaker line. Yesterday morning, he was with seven members of the Takapuna Surf and LifeSaving Club, who swam two miles from the club-house to Milford Beach.
