WORK FOR THE BOYS
JUVENILE LABOUR BUREAUX DEPARTMENT’S NEW VENTURE Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veltch, issues a statement that the Department of Labour has already made endeaYour, through its various branches, to establish exchanges through which particulars of boys leaving school and desiring employment were obtained. Employers requiring the services of hoys were invited to apply for any labour they might require. The response from employers to the invitations issued had so far been very small, the reason, no doubt, being due to trade depression. Moreover, it was understood that most employers had their own waiting-lists of hoys and made their pwn engagements directly. It was thought, however, that a comprehensive system should, if possible, be instituted by means of the establishment of juvenile labour employment exchanges and the department had been instructed to maka inquiries accordingly. Voluntary organisations that had been interesting themselves, such as Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, Y.M.C.A., etc., will be invited to cooperate with the departmental officers in setting- up local committees.
