A sensational finish was seen on the J Last bourne green in the game between Lambert (Thornfion) and Pilkington (Hamilton). With one head to go Lambert had a lead of six points. When the skips went down on the last head Pilkington was lying six. Ho drew with his first, making seven. Lambert tried to draw but just missed. Pilkington drew with his last bowl, making eight. Lambert was just narrow with Ins Inst, making no alteration in the position, and Pilkington won the game by two points. WALKER GOES DOWN A surprise in section B in the fifth round was the defeat of Reid (Lyall Bay) by the veteran Land (Hastings). This was the latter skip’s first win. North. (Te Awamutu) suffered his third defeat when he went down to Gray (Kelburn X by a single point in the fifth round. In the same section Snaddon ( Victoria), with only one previous win, scored a decisive victory over Wood ( V.8.A.). Tho sensation of the sixth round was the defeat of Maxwell Walker (Auckland) by T. Yates (New South Wales}, j The latter, who loves the game more for the pleasure than the victory, scored only seven points in the third round (at Kelburn), forfeited his game in the fourth round, and his fate seemed to be a foregone conclusion when he met Walker, but to the surprise of all ho pulled off a win in the final head. If conditions to-morrow arc; similar to what they were to-day, the games will probably consist of 21 heads instead of 25. The weather was dull and tlio wind troublesome for the continuation of tho rinks competition at the New Zealand Championships Tournament. Play was reduced to 21 heads, owing to the adverse conditions. Walker received his first defeat in the sixth round, going down to Yates iN.S.W.) after a sensational finish, 21 —23. Walker had previously defeated Chambers (Sumner) 16 —12. Yates was one down on the 20th head, and got a three on to the Professor. Walker, with five wins, is sure to see the post-sectional play. Hill, of Wellington. is tho only other rink in this section to notch five wins. Bremner, 21, beat Hutcheson (Dunedin) If, and then Ward (Hataitai) ran him to a point, IS —17, in Breinner's favour. The West Enders have five wins. North (Te Awamutu) lost both games to-day, going down to Gray (Kelburn) 16—17, and Hutcheson (Dunedin) 1'4—25. In this section Edwards, of Temuka, has five wins. Parsons (Ponsonby) 20 beat Baskwello (Carterton) 14, and then defeated Bleach (V.8.A.), 17—16, in a grand game. As I predicted, it would bo Parsons having to go all out to lower tho redubtable Victorian's colours. AN UNUSUAL GAME Hosking has five wins and a loss. Pilkington (Hamilton) lost to Doherty (Kelburn) 22—21. The latter has six wins in this section. Hie Hamilton men then defeated Lambert, 23—21. This game was full of sensational happenings. On tho 17tli, two bowls were, touching the kitty, and on the ISth, the umpire was unable to decide who had the shot. On the 21st head, Pilkington requried six to win and got the maximum, all drawn. Lambert failing to save. Pilkington thus won by two—a remarkable game. Ardell. of Hataita i also notched an eight against Hfford (Edgeware). It is record scoring to get eights in this kind of comPt Saturday sees the continuation of the seetion play on the rinks, the seventh and eighth rounds having to be decided. In the next games Walker plays Slater (Oamaru) and Gordon (St* John’s). Findlay meets Norwood (Victoria) and Nash (Palmerston North), and the West Ender, Bremner, plays Snadden (Victoria) and Beynori (Petone). Hosking plays N. H.
