ARCHBISHOP’S DEATH

DR. LEES, OF MELBOURNE A SUDDEN COLLAPSE Reed. 9 a.m. ’ MELBOURNE, To-day. The death occurred sudc> nly of Dr. Harrington Lees, Archbishop of Melbourne, who was recently married and had not long returned from England. He had just appealed for peace in industry.

Tarrington Clare Lees, Archbishop of Melbourne and Metropolitan of Victoria, was 58 years of age. He was born at Ashton - under Lyne, England, and educated at 1 Cambridge. He was appointed Archbishop of Melbourne in 1921.

His publications include: “K i n g ’ s Way,” “Joy of Bible Study,” “St. Paul and his Converts,” "Christ and Bis Slaves,” “The Divine Master in Home Life,” and “St. Paul’s Friends.” Mis first wife died in 1927, and last year he married in England Miss Joanna Linnell. The archbishop had been confined to bed for several days with influenza, but he had not seen a doctor until yesterday morning. Dr. Lees was having lunch and his wife was with him when he collapsed. All attempts to revive him failed. Death was due to heart disease, from which he had suffered for many years. He was formerly a prominent athlete, and he strained his heart during his university career.
