HUNTLY TOWN BOARD
There was a full attendance of members at the initial meeting of the year of the bluntly Town Board. The Department of Internal A hairs wrote approving the Town Hall irregular loans and erection of shops. and authorising the board to grant a licence to the Huntlv War Memorial Club. The member of the district advised that the matter of transferring the recreation ground site to the board was now in the hands of the Crown Lands Commissioner. Building permits were granted to Messrs. William H. Allan and .1. J. Leydon. The vexed question of taxi stands is to be finally settled by a conference with the taxi drivers this week. TAURANGA TOPICS Mr. G. Henderson, having sold his interest in the Commercial Hotel, is leav - ing the district. On the Tauranga Bowling Club’s green on Wednesday afternoon, in the presence of a large number of bowlers, the president, Mr. Ivory, on behalf of the club, made a presentation to Mr. Henderson of a silver cake basket, and a case of pipes. Mr. Ivory referred to the popularity of Mr. Henderson among the bowlers, and to his services as president of the club. Mr. Henderson suitably replied. General regret is expressed at Mr. and Mrs. Henderson leaving. Both have always associated themselves with all movements for tl* advancement of the town. The first meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council in the New Year was very brief, there being very little business to transact. Notice was received that the H.M.S. Laburnum would visit the port on January 17. Councillors reported having visited the 24 properties scheduled for revaluation under the Act dealing with farm lands in boroughs, and recommended that the schedule be approved, and there be a revaluation under the terms of the Act.
