SWIMMING TITLES
BIG PROGRAMME FOR AUCKLAND SEVERAL CLUB CARNIVALS Entries are now flowing in for the Auckland swimming championships, which will be held at the Tepid Baths on the evenings of January 21 and 22. Mr. 11. Moore, the secretary, will be able to receive nominations up till Thursday next week. Auckland’s best swimmers will be in action. After the carnival, the selectors, Messrs. Moore, Brighton and Gibson, will announce the team to represent Auckland at the New Zealand championships in Wellington next month. Championship events will be: Men: 100yds, 220yds, 440yds, 150yds backstroke, 220yds breaststroke, diving. Ladies: 3.ooyds, 220yds, 440yds, 100yds backstroke, 220yds breaststroke. Intermediate boys: 100yds, 220yds. 440yds, 100yds breaststroke, diving’. Intermediate girls: 100yds, 220yds, 75yds breaststroke. Junior boys; 100yds, 220yds, _ 75yds breaststroke. Junior girls: 50yds, 100yds, 50yds breaststroke. A number of handicap events will also be held. To-morrow afternoon, at Shelly Beach, Ponsonby Club is holding a club afternoon. At the end of several handicap races, a water polo game will bo played between Ponsonby and the team from H.M.S. Diomede. On Saturday afternoon next week, the club will hold the harbour race for the Waiwai Shield. The event will begin at 2 p.m. probably and the course will be from Western Wharf to Shelly Beach. Next Tuesday evening, Parnell Club is holding a carnival at the Tepid Baths. Record entries have been received. There are over 45 entrants in the inter-club race. Ponsonby A will play Waitemata B at water polo. At Mount Eden Club’s second carnival at Bellevue Road on January 28, the 50yds Auckland championship will be decided. Nominations close on January 24.
