CAR-DRIVER ASLEEP
Press Association ~~ INVERCARGILL, Thursday. At the inquest on Sydney Harold Patton, the coroner, Mr. G. Cruickshank, said: “It seems to me that the driver, Day’s, statement that he fell asleep at the wheel is the only probable explanation of the accident. It all happened in a flash. I don’t think Day can be held blameworthy, but so as not to tie the hands of the police I will return an open verdict that deceased was killed through being thrown through the windshield of a car driven by Day, when it struck a power pole.’’
