FIRE IN CITY HOTEL
BASEMENT OF WAVERLEY CATCHES FOUR ROOMS DAMAGED Fire broke out in the Waver!ey Hotel about one a.m. yesterday, when heat from a hot-water furnace in the basement set the woodwork of several rooms alight. Altogether, about four rooms were damaged, the woodwork of the ceilings and floors being burned. The City Fire Brigade turned out promptly, however, and prevented any further damage being done. The hotel is owned by Hancock and Company. Limited, and the licensee is Mr. J. Winter. The building is insured for a total of £27.000 and the contents for a total of £12,500.
