DISTRICT STOCK SALES
Stock auctioneers report on stock sales held throughout the district during the past week as follows: During the week we held sales at WestAlfred Buckland and Sons, Limited: — field, Waiuku, Wellsford, Kumeu, Tuakau. and a pig sale at Waiuku. Fair yardings came forward at each centre and prices obtained were similar to those ruling prior to the holidays. Best dairy cows and heifers made £lO 10s to £ls 10s; second grade cows and heifers, £7 10s to £lO ss; aged and inferior cows. £4 10s to £7; empty young cows and heifers, £4 10s to £6 3s; store and boner cows, £2 10s to £5 15s; well-bred 18-months-old dairy heifers. £5 15s to £8; other heifers, £4 to £5 10s; heavy prime fat cows and heifers, £S to £lO ss; lighter fat cows and heifers, £5 10s to £7 17s 6d; fat steers, £lO to £l3 15s: grown steers in forward condition, £9 10s to £lO 10s; four-year-old steers, £8 to £9 7s 6d; two to three-year-old steers. £6 15s to £8; yearling to 18-month-old steers, £5 5s to £6 10s; good calves, £1 15s to £2 15s; smaller calves, £1 5s to £1 14s; heavy bulls, £7 to £9 17s 6d: sound young herd bulls, £7 7s to £l2 12s; other, bulls, £3 10s to £6 10s. At Waiuku there was a full yarding of pigs, which sold at Westfield quotations. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited:—Sales were held during the past week at Westfield, Pukekohe (cattle and pigs), Paeroa, Ngatea, Papakura and Waiuku (pigs). We report good sales for all classes of cattle, the Papakura sale in particular being a most successful one. Values for pigs improved slightly on late sales, especially at Pukekohe, where we had a large entry. Heifers suitable for dairy purposes were penned in large numbers at Papakura and sold readily, values for these being somewhat better. There is also a keen demand for dairy cows and heifers close to profit. Best dairy cows and heifers made £ll to £l4 ss; other dairy cows and heifers, £7 to £lO 10s; aged cows and inferior heifers, £3 10s to £6 15s; bulls, £4 to £l3, according to weight and quality; store and boner cows, £4 to £6 15s; heifers suitable for dairy purposes, best, £6 to £7 17s 6d; others, £4 to £5 17s 6d; weaner heifers, £2 10s to £4 4s; weaner steers, £2 5s to £3 10s; yearling to 18months steers, £4 5s to £5 17s 6d; two to 2£-year steers, £6 to £7 10s; three to os-year steers, £7 15s to £8 10s; four to 4 1 -year steers, £9 to £9 17s 6d; grown steers in forward condition, £lO to £lO 15s.
