Burtenshaw. of Hamilton, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Wilson, of Wellington, are staying at the Star Hotel. Mrs. Bridge, of Maungatautari, is spending the holidays at St. Heliers Bay. Mrs. Dennehy and Miss Moira Dennehy, of Hhthland Park, Wellington, are visiting Auckland. Mrs. H. Mrs. W. E. Kirby, formerly of Bullerville, Grafton, has taken up her residence at Nelson Avenue, Sulphur Beach, Northcote. * * • * At the Hotel Cargen are Mr. and Mrs. K. Ballantyne, of Christchurch, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Williams, of Gisborne, and Miss Jean Hamilton, of Wellington. The engagement is announced of Norma Kathline, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Sims, of Parnell, Auckland, to David Bennie, only son of Mrs. and Mr. D. M. Adam, of Newmarket, Auckland.
FOR THE COCKTAIL HOUR Wash and pound three anchovies with 2oz of cooked minced chicken or game. Mix with a teaspoonful of cliutney, and enough cream to make into a paste. Season if necessary, and spread on small round cracker biscuits. Whip a gill of cream, add Hoz of grated parmesan ‘cheese, season with cayenne and salt, and pile on small round biscuits made from cheese pastry. Cheese Pastry.—Rub loz of butter into 2oz of flour; stir in 2oz of grated cheese; add salt and cayenne. Bind .with the beaten yolk of an egg, roll out on a floured board, cut into small rounds, put on a greased baking tin, and bake in a moderate oven until pale-brown. This mixture can .be made into cheese straws, which are much appreciated with cocktails. Add salt sparingly in case the cheese is very salt.
