BEGGED BY CARD

DUMB MAN IN TROUBLE ARMY TO HELP HIM Dumb through war injuries. Matthew Millard has been in the habit of begging by displaying a card which he carried in his hand. Millard pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to being idle and disorderly, having begged alms in Pitt Street. “This is a sad case, and I do not want to be hard on the man,” said Sub-Inspector McCarthy. “He cleared away from Hanmer Springs, and lost his pension. However, he seems to get on well with the Salvation Army, and they could take care of him ” Millard was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
