COAL TRADE FALLS OFF
FIGURES FOR NEWCASTLE Reed. 10.5 a.m. NEWCASTLE, To-day The Sub-collector of Customs has made available returns showing the quantity of coal shipped from Newcastle last year. These bear further witness to the lost trade in coal in recent years. The exports of coal to inter-State and oversea ports totalled 2,885,958 tons, valued at £3,391,361. The output is 700,000 tons less than that of last year, when the coal trade was admittedly depressed.
