CRICKET AT NORTHCOTE
OPENING OF NEW PITCH The new cricket pitch on the Northcote Municipal Recreation Reserve was officially opened last Saturday, when a match was played between the local eleven and the Balmoral team. The pitch is laid down in colfax, a bituminous mixture, the work being undertaken by the borough overseer, Mr. Mays. Mr. C. Arblaster, the veteran North Shore cricketer, assisted. The outfield has been receiving great attention from cricketers during the evenings, and is now in fair order. The Mayor of Nortlicote, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, in a short speech prior to the match, expressed the wish that with this facility provided for practice the local team would be able to show improved form. Mr. H. Shaw, on behalf of the players, thanked the council and those who had so generously subscribed funds for the completion of the.work. Several donations by local enthusiasts were handed in for the purpose of providing seats for spectators. A dressing-shed and shower bath has also been erected, and in the near future further improvements are contemplated.
