OUT FOR A BREATHER
over-enterprising. But both have an excellent sense of judgment. Players in the association are generally elated at the success of the representative team in the Walker Shield competition against Wellington and Christchurch. Two Wellington trundlers, Bilby and Griffiths, impressed. Both are young players, but their bowling is dangerous. Last season Bilby took six Petone wickets for 11 runs, and seven Ivilbirnie wickets for 1U runs. At Hamilton, after the Auckland match, on a good turf against the pick of the Waikato, they shaped exceptionally well. Wellington batted first and made 330 runs. Bilby and Griffiths dismissed the country team for 65 in the first innings and 66 in the second. Griffiths took 10 wickets for 63 runs and Bilby seven for 4S. They made the Waikato men appear to be novices. The association entertained the Wellington visitors extensively during their stay, and they were taken on sight-seeing trips around Auckland. The Wellington men consider that the most formidable bowler they met on the tour was Everest, of Waikato.
