and Dickson. Richardson and Kerr were able bowlers for Eden, but they found stubborn resistance from Williams, McFarlane and Turner besides Sallen and Dickson. Glen Eden began its first innings poorly, and, when stumps were drawn, had put on only 90 runs for eight wickets. Morman and Clarke batted best. Victoria certainly has a bright chance of winning very easily. Den Martin is proving himself to be one of the most useful players m the senior A ranks of the Suburban Cricket Association. On Saturday afternoon, at the Domain, when the association began matches in the second half of its season, he bowled splendid fy for Harbour Board to secure an 8-38 average. sjc His performance, even taking into consideration the staleness a spell from active competition gives more to batting than to howling, was one of the best seen so far this season. Ellerslie’s batsmen failed utterly, toi tho most part, to keep Martin's dangerour deliveries in check. His bowling rose quickly from the dry pitch. Ellerslie did nothing- startling in its first innings. Only four . T; (fed ye (27), Matthews (25)-, Elliott CM not out) and Burton (16), were able to meet the bon ling to any degree. Ellerslie scored 10S and Harbour Board had a lead of three i uns at the end of the afternoon, with the loss of onlv six wickets. Martin again showed his usefulness by being the best scorer. 31 not out. Dunning and Turner also did fairly well. Ponsonby received a jolt at the form shown bv Green Dane’s batsmen, who battered‘the usually effective bowling of the champion team considerably. The result of a tiresome afternoon, for Ponsonby, was that the Dane has -..-.7 runs to its credit and Ponies have 10-t two wickets for 54 runs. Next Saturday will have to see Fonsonby with renewed energy if it wishes to retain its unbeaten record. Eric Watts (56). Clark (45). Seccombe (43). Wroath (28), Hughes (2t>), and Shepherd (25) were responsible for Green Lane’s best innings for a long time, v-. i-iin was the only Ponsonby bowler to be really dangerous. Oreen n ~ood hope of winning on the fii^t Innings although Fonsonby has the reputation of being able to use to the occasion. * * * With Martin, of Harbour Board Erie Watts took his place m the best n i aV ers of the afternoon. Dike his 1 brother, Clive, he has a penchant for hard-hitting, and scored repeatedly on mu.t in thmr
