MAJESTIC
“ROSES OF PICARDY” Another excellent programme is the attraction at the Majestic Theatre this week, embracing interesting short 111 ms, an entrancing dancing spectacle, and finally the big British picture, “Hoses Of Picardy/' Perhaps the most interesting of the supporting films is a TJ.F.A. gem, an instructional picture of the lives of bees. A cartoon and a Majestic News with the latest British and American gazettes, are also shown. The stage interlude is of an unusual character. It has been arranged by York© Gray, and the main dance, in silhouette, is entitled, “The Orange.” The picture, “Hoses Of Picardy,” is based on the two well-known war novels by R. 11. Mottram, “The Spanish Farm” and “64-94.” Lillian HallDa vis lias the role of Madeline, John {Stuart is Lieutenant Skene and Ilumbertson Wright is “Uncle” Vunderlynden. On Friday next the Majestic will screen the great boxing picture, “The King.” Featured in the stellar role of a boxer is Carl Drisson, ex-cham-pion of the Danish Navy, and considered as the most romantic of modern stage lovers. Mis part in “The Ring” is his first appearance in the movies, and it looks as though he will, bo equally famous in his new sphere. Lilian Hall-Da vis is seen as his wife, while lan Hunter is the Australian heavyweight champion. The story, which is gripping from start to finish, depicts the lives of two men and one woman, with the boxing ring as a background. Alfred Hitchcock, the director, has made one of the best fight pictures ever to be shown in this country. A second feature will be shown on Friday in the comedy, “Golf Widows.” Another fine musical programme is presented by the Majestic Orchestra, which is, as usual, under the capable baton of Mr. J. Whiteford Waugh. Among the incidental music are selections from Mendelssohn, “Tannhauser” (Wagner), “The Slavonic Rhapsody” as well as. a number of bright modern pieces.
