NEW CANAL TO BE MADE

WAITAKARURU IMPROVEMENT (Front Our Own Correspondent) NGATEA, To-day. A canal is to be made in the Waltakaruru district in the near future by the Lands Drainage Department to divert the drainage into the Maukoro Canal from the Pouarua Road district, which now flows through tic Ilauraki Plains West Drainage Board’s area and menaces settlers near the Piako riverfront. The canal will be made by a dredge, and its passage up the Maukoro Canal from the Gulf will necessitate the temporary removal of a bridge on the Paeroa-Pokeno main highway. Should the Interruption be for more than a few hours traffic will be diverted to a dam in the canal a few miles away.
