PRESENTS FOR LEPERS

VISITORS TO MAKOGA! Many Aucklanders sent Christmas gifts to the lepers on Makogai Island, and on Christmas Day a party of over 90 people from Suva made the trip to the island on the Burns, Philp steamer Malake, to visit the patients. At the island Captain Colquhouu, master of the Malake, entertained the doctors and priests at Christmas dinner. and the visitors spent a full day ashore. Mrs. A. O. MacKenzie, wife of the Fiji manager for Burns, Philp (South Sea) Company, Ltd., played the part of Santa Claus, and every patient received a gift, while toys were given to all the children. A Christmas dinner was given in the main hall for active" patients, and those unable to leave the wards were well looked after. On their return to Suva the visitors spoke highly- of the action of Mr. MacKenzis in making the Malake available free of charge, and also of the kindness of the captain and officers of the ship.
