THIRD FALSE ALARM
"That’s the third since New Year,” said the captain of the Newmarket Fire Brigade as he took off his helmet and mopped his brow this morning. He was registering slight and pardonable annoyance; this i s no weather for false alarms. The police constable who had been for a ride on the engine agreed with him. The fire bell clanged just before noon in response to a telephone call but the fire was not. The other two alarms since the end of 1928 also have been maliciously false. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations to-night:— Auckland. —Maui Pomare, Kartigi, Tofua. Enton. Sawolka. Valacia. Iris. Chatham Islands. —Port "Wellington. Corinthic, Cornwall. Wellington. —Maori, Wahine, Tamahine, Ngaio, Arahura, Rotorua, Port Hardv, Surrey, Tredennick. Tamaroa, Tutanekai. Mahia, Port Denison, Maimilius, Ruapehu. A war ua.— Sir J. C. Ross, C. A. Larsen, N. T. Nilsen Alonso, City of New York. Makura, Manuka, Pareora, Maimoa, Karetu, Tahiti.
