EDUCATION EFFICIENCY

CONFERENCE IN SYDNEY MR. C. W. GARRARD TO REPRESENT N.Z. New Zealand is to be represented at the conference of school inspectors in Sydney this month by Mr. C. W. Garrard, 8.A., senior inspector of schools in the Auckland district. The sending of the delegate has been authorised by the Minister of Education, the Hon. IT. Atmore. Mr. Garrard will leave by the Ulimaroa on January 25 and return on February 7. The conference of Australian inspectors will take place from January 29 to 31.

The Dominion was represented at the Brisbane conference some _ years ago by Mr. T. B. Strong, now director of education, and in Hobart by the present chief inspector of schools, Mr. W. W. Bird. The New Zealand In-spectoi-s’ Association is affiliated with the Australian body. Each year the conference decides on the principal subject for discussion at the next meeting. This year members of the Australian Association are publishing a book on “Educational Efficiency; Its Aims and Objects,” and this will form the main topic.
