BID FOR AFGHAN THRONE BIG REWARDS OFFERED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.30 a.m. DELHI, Friday. The Government of India has offered handsome rewards for the detention of the Prince Sirdar, Muhammad Omar Khan, a member of a branch of the Royal Family which is a rival of King Amanullah.
He escaped from parole at Allahabad in disguise, and is reported to have crossed the north-west frontier, making a bid for the Afghan throne. Omar is one of six sons of the late Sirdar, Muhammad Khan. He was taken to Allahabad at the close of the second Afghan war and was not allowed to leave.
Omar is said to be strongly proBritish. He is using the tribal revolt as a chance of restoring his own dynasty to the throne. A Kabul message says King Amanullah has rewarded the troops with two months’ pay for repulsing the rebels.
