Jackie Coogan Earns £looo Weekly In London Variety Show

ACKIE COOGAN, the 14-years-old film star, lias i arrived in London reecu tly on a four-weeks’ ( engagement at the PalJ ladium. He appeared in a family cross-talk turn with his father. Prather small for his years (says a newspaper man), I found Jackie Coogan to be nice-mannered and very intelligent. He seems never to be at a loss for a quick answer to a question. It is stated that' the salary for his turn at the Palladium was £I,OOO a week. “I hear they are going to pay you a great deal of money,” I said to Jackie Coogan. ‘‘Do you think you are worth it?”

“I don’t know how much they are going to pay me,” he said. “I have been given a golden half-sovereign, and I believe I can get a five-shilling piece if I go to a bank and ask for one.” “Would you like to see my train?” he asked. As toy trains go, Jackie’s went remarkably well, although his mother became slightly impatient at the time the water took to boil, “Does this train go by schedule or by almanac?” she wanted to know. “It goes by steam pressure,” said her son, “and once It gets going it runs for half an hour.” It is clear that Jackie Coogan would like to be an engine-driver when he ; grows up.
