1929 REVIEW— During the year 1928, America, Great Britain and Germany have been the three great rivals for the favours of the cinema-going public. It is fitting, therefore, that the present virtues of the three should be considered in anticipation of yew Year releases. American motion pictures are outstanding because of the perfection of their mounting and general presentation: their high-speed “pep” and absence of dullness; their glossy smartness. British pictures arc worthy because of the rugged solidity of their construction, their true reflection of normal life, their clean presentation of sane plots. German pictures are attractive because they are new and ultramodern in both construction and treatment. In artistic photography they lead the world, and each scene is devised for ensemble rather than individual effect. What would be the ideal film for 1929?
