NEW ENGINE ARRIVES
FOR USE ON MAIN TRUNK TRIAL RUNS AT WELLINGTON The first of the new Garrett locomotives. to be used on the Main Trunk line has arrived by the Northumberland from England. It has been brought out in sections and will be taken to the railway workshops at Lower Hutt to be assembled. The locomotive will then be given trial runs at Wellington, and later will be put into commission on the Main Trunk between Marton and Taumarunui. Altogether three Garrett engines have beerf ordered for the Main Trunk line. The other two will arrive as soon as the order has been completed in England. The Garrett is a very heavy type of locomotive suitable for hauling big loads over inclines, such as there are on the Main Trunk line.
