mrs. withey still in grave condition ALLEN’S BORROWED GUN (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, To-day. Inquiries go to show that Mrs. Withey. the victim of Wednesday night’s tragic occurrence, when she was assaulted by George Allen, who subsequently committed suicide, is very seriously ill, and her parents are not being allowed to see her. She is suffering from a severe skull fracture. The gun held by Allen during the siege belonged to his brother-in-law. A significant fact was that Allen tried to borrow the weapon some time ago, giving the reason that he wanted to take it up country. The owner refused to part with it. However, when Wednesday’s tragedy occurred it was found that the gun had been removed, apparently having been taken by Allen. The police searched the shop and found several letters, including one addressed to the coroner. WAS HOSPITAL INMATE (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, To-day. It was ascertained to-day that Allen. the victim of Wednesday’s tragedy, was an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital from October 9 to 17, suffering from insomnia.
