ROUGH RIDING
YY'ITH all the careless riding seen Ellerslie, it was surprising that only one jockey was ordered a compulsory holiday. This was A. Tinker, the 'owner-trainer of Mervette, which was the horse concerned in the interference with Sleepy Sol yesterday in the first race. Pegaway might have won the Grandstand Handicap yesterday had he been able to get through in the straight, but that was not a good and sufficient reason for A. Ellis to attempt to force his way through and interfere with several other horses. He was lucky to get out without punishment. Then in the last race there was a mix-up 100 yards from the judge’s box. one of the leaders boring out badly. There was an inquiry, and explanations tendered were accepted, no action being taken. And so it goes on.
