LOSS TO RUGBY
“FLYING SCOTSMAN” LEAVES C. E. W. MACINTOSH FOR ENGLAND Auckland Rugby has suffered a loss through the departure for England of C. E. W. Macintosh, the “Flying Scotsman ” who, with his dash, speed and the vivid scarlet stockings of a Scotch international, was one of the great attractions at Eden Park early last season.
Macintosh, who came here with his wife, Lady Jean Macintosh, daughtei* of the Duke of Hamilton, stayed in
Auckland just a year. He left Auckland this week by the Aorangi, after playing with fair success in the New Zealand champ i o nship tennis tournament, in which he was partnered by Miss Margery MacFarlane, now lady champion.
It was unfortunate that an injui’y suffered to his knee while playing in a match at North Shore prevented him from showing his paces as a member of the Auckland representative team, and also stopped him from participating in local athletics.
In tennis and on the hunting field, however, Macintosh was a prominent and popular figure during his brief stay.
