NINETEEN YEARS NOT OUT
The Auckland cricket team has one link with the early; days of Plunket Shield cricket. “Ernie” Horspool first played for Auckland in 1909, but he did not come into Plunket Shield cricket until the 1910-11
season. Since then he has been a regular member of Auckland’s shield teams. Back in the 1913-14 season he made a century against Wellington. He has played also for New Zealand. In his palmy days as a cricketer he was a fast scorer, with aggressive, but sound shots all
round the wicket. The present writer j once saw him score over 100 runs in 1 an hour, against an Auckland Wednesi day team. On that occasion Horspool j and George Cummings—then an Auck- ; land representative, but previously of | Otago—hit up 300 runs in about an hour and a-half. Nowadays Horspool | is more sedate, as is but to be expected j when one is still in representative | cricket 19 years after one’s entrv into i it.
