DANCE NEAR DARGAVILLE

OPENING OF NEW HALL. (f rom Our Otcn Corrcspondejit) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. The official opening of a fine new hall took place at Chase's Gorge, near Dargaville, on New Year’s night, thus adding an attraction for campers at this favourite seaside resort. The opening function took the form of a social and dance, and just on 150 couples occupied the floor. The president of the Camp Club, Air. F. Izzard, in an appropriate address, extended a hearty welcome to one and all, and invited Air. A. J. Alartin, who is the oldest camper in the gorge, to open the hall officially. Air. Alartin, in opening the hall, traced the history of the hall ft-om the inception of the idea, some two years ago. He said the efforts of the campers had cleared a very substantial portion of the cost. The labour had been given by campers, and he thanked all who had assisted in the project. Alessrs. F. Izzard, W. H. Clift'e, C. Sills and .E. Robinson acted as Al.C.’s tind dance extras were played by Alisses L. Wansbone, V. Costello and Topia. The Atonte* Carlo waltz was won by Aliss AI. Dargaville and Air. E. Grant, and the doll competition by Airs. G. S. Mitchell. Last evening the hall was in use for the children’s function. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Doreen Winifred, eldest daughter of ATi*. and Airs. Gilbert Gilmour, King Street, Frankton. to Colin Noel, fourth son of the late Air. and Airs. Hyland, of Auckland.
